Deacidification (DA) Units for Oil Regeneration
In use, insulating oil will with time become acidic and if not corrected result in the precipitation of sludge leading to, amongst other things insulation breakdown brought about by restriction of the cooling effect and corrosion of the metal surfaces above the oil level caused by condensed acidic vapours.
Once acidity is detected as having reached a predetermined maximum acceptable level, normally between 0.1 –0.5 mgkoh/g, the insulating oil must be discarded or treated. Discarding or returning used insulating oils to the oil companies can be an expensive approach this problem.
Our Deacidification units, using either convenient disposable Fullers Earth Cartridges, or Stainless Steel Mesh cages for clients to fill with Activated Alumina which clients can easily source locally, have been developed to be utilised in conjunction with an Insulating Oil Treatment Plant which is capable of pumping hot oil through the ‘DA’ module and filtering the returning oil before use enabling operators to regenerate their own oil.
Using our environmentally friendly option rather than dumping oil, our DA units will not only remove the acid while also lightening the colour by at least 3 shades then it passes through our 1 micron cartridge filter removing any fines, before being fed back to the transformer. As this is a separate module to the Oil filter when acid removal is not required the DA plants can be easily disconnected so there is no need to transport this module when it is not required.
